Christmas panic

Hi,
With only 8 days to go and Christmas pressies and lunch to think about, you may be in a bit of a panic ( I know I am). I thought I would show you this great outfit for Christmas day lunch, although probably best to get changed into it after you have made the lunch. The outfit is from Wallis and the leggings can easily be dressed up or down. As I am typing this, it is snowing heavily and my kids are overexcited about the prospect of school being closed a day before they are due to break up. With kids off, pressies to wrap, turkey to buy and lunch to plan, I may not get to blog again until the New Year. So, here are my top 10 tips for Party dressing
1. LBD- little black dress
2. Embellished bag, necklace, shoe or belt
3. Sequins- on any garment
4. Skyscraper heels
5. Patterned tights
6. Metallic clutch bag
7. A tux
8. Leather skinnies
9. Disco dress, the shinier the better
10. Lots of party invitations
Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year

5 weeks and counting

Hi,
You may not have noticed ( if you live in a box), but since the beginning of October every shop is either selling or decorated with all things Christmas and every television advert is pushing another toy for our kids to ask for on their Christmas list, as if it wasn't long enough already! Well the good news is Christmas day is 5 weeks today! Yipee, I hear you say. Before you start to panic about everything you need to get done, I can help you a little with tips on what to wear to the many parties you have been invited to. This party season it is a time to sparkle, shine and dazzle and this dress at £75 and the bracelet at £15 from New Look, ticks all the boxes.
I will keep you posted on what to wear and you can concentrate on the present buying. The countdown begins!

One shoulder?

Hi,
Sorry there has been a shortage of blogs, but I have been busy, it's that time of year. With thoughts of Christmas and soon to be parties and invitations, I thought I would show you how fashion has come over all asymmetric. A one shouldered dress shows a little flesh, but has the security of one strap. Sexy, demure and sure to make an impact. This one shouldered stud party dress is from Warehouse £100.
I love this look and you will find versions in many High street stores.
Will you bare a shoulder? Do you like this style?

Shoulders are HUGE

Hi,
It's all about the shoulder this season. Shoulders are volcanic and dramatic- horizontally out, up and boulder like round. Think Dallas and Dynasty ( remember it! ). The bonus is big shoulders gives the illusion of a tiny waist. This structured shoulder jacket with diagonal zip is from Miss Selfrige, £110.
For more trends take a look at www.thefashionfix.co.uk.
Will you be going huge this season? Is it all in the size?

BBC radio london and TheFashionfix

Hi,

On Tuesday, Vanessa Feltz came to Brent Cross to do a live show. After speaking to Vanessa about the trends for the season and how to adapt them for your age, I was given the challenge of dressing a member of the live audience in 30 minutes. Here is a pic of Martyn, the volunteer, Vanessa and I. Martyn was originally dressed in jeans, white shirt, cardigan and tan boots, my challenge was to change her outfit/ image in 30 minutes!! We ran to Topshop where I kitted her out with a gorgeous black dress ( it is difficult to see the detail here), a very soft and stunning stud collar black leather jacket, a large statement necklace and black tights. We ran from Topshop to Office where I grabbed a fab pair of flat biker boots and an extremely high pair of platform shoes ( here I am in the pic above showing them to the audience). As we had to run down the escalator to return to the live radio show, Martyn wore the boots and I carried the shoes. The audience loved the outfit and transformation, Martyn went back to Topshop to buy the jacket and Vanessa and her team were very impressed by what I had acheived in just 30 minutes. Success all round.

Just think how much you can get if you book a 2 hours or more shopping session with me. Listen to the podcast at bbc.co.uk and play Vanessa Feltz 29th September.

Happy listening

Transitional Times

Hi,

Along with Summer sales, come school hols. This is a time every year when I am not known to shop or style - There are odd bits and pieces in the shops and the kids and I need to spend quality time together.
Even though Summer is officially

here ( someone tell the weather that! ), I am now looking at Autumn/ Winter 09. I will be posting pictures of new season stock and writing about the trends regularly, so watch out for them. My website www.thefashionfix.co.uk will also be updated with loads of new pics and ideas. In the meantime this great multi ring necklace from Accessorize £16 is a transitional piece that you can start wearing now.

Are you still shopping for Summer pieces or are you starting to think about the new season? Let me know.

Hi,
Sorry, I have not been able to write my blog as I have had problems logging on- I have to say I am not the most computer literate person!
Anyway, the question I ask myself every day is, what shall I wear today? The weather is very changeable, going through many seasons in one day. So, this week I have decided to show you a cute pink suede ruffle clutch bag from Accessorize £35 - you can wear this whatever the weather and it will brighten up any outfit.
Are you having problems deciding what to wear in the mornings? Let me know.
Have a look at www.thefashionfix.co.uk for tips.

Music and Maxis

Hi,
In my last post I showed you a great floral maxi dress and said that they were perfect for Summer- Cool and floaty. On Saturday I went to Kenwood ( picnic concert) to see James Morrison- yes, he is fab, anyway it was maxi dress city. A perfect evening and so many versions, in the end even my husband was saying " oh look another maxi dress ". I felt very proud, as after being together for 14 years he finally knows the difference between a skirt and a dress- we really have made progress!
Will you be wearing a maxi?

Skirt selection

Hi,
With so many trousers about in the shops, I thought you may like to know a little about the skirt selection this season. There are multi- layered cuts to the ballerina's frou-frou pretty skirts. There is also the midi - this looks best worn with towering heels.
This ruffle hem skirt from Dorothy Perkins is £22 and is one of my favourite skirts this Summer.
Which skirt style will you choose this season?

Summer has finally arrived, long may it last. For those of you who have been wearing the long leg jumpsuit, here is a great Summer version. This jersey short jumpsuit is from French Connection £65 and shoes £1oo.
Time to tone those legs!
Do you prefer the short jumpsuit or will you be sticking to the longer length?
I know my answer to this, I definately need to go running more often!

Dress or Jeans?

Hi,
Sorry I have not been posting regular blogs, I have been busy scouting the shops for Summer dresses. Over the last 2 weeks I have had lots of requests from women asking me to find them dresses, so that they can stop wearing jeans. As a jeans lover myself, I know how difficult it is to break the jeans habit. There are many high street shops with a large variety of print dresses in stock, so it is easier than ever to find a jeans alternative.
This fab dress is from warehouse £65, hat £16, necklace £12, bangles from £10.
Now all we need is the sun!
Will you trade your jeans in for a Summer dress?

asymmetric eveningwear

Hi,
For Summer there is so much choice for eveningwear. Long or short, loose or fitted, frilled or feathered, but the one rule is - it must be one-shouldered.
This eye catching, one-shoulder, satin dress from Wallis is £50.
Now you have the dress, you just need the Summer party invitations to flood in.
Will you be one-shouldered this season?
Take a look at www.thefashionfix.co.uk for more trends.

Box Clutch

Hi,
The weather can not decide what to do and like me, you may be in a Summer outfit one day and Winter the next.
Instead of buying new clothes you might want to update an outfit by adding a new bag. This silver box clutch is from Monsoon, £30. I also noticed, in my travels, a great turquiose snakeskin cluth from Dune, £55.
Do you like the box clutch or will you be sticking to your big slouchy bag?
Take a look at www.thefashionfix.co.uk for some more tips.

Animal Magic

Hi,
For a piece of animal magic try adding a little leopard, zebra or tiger to your wardrobe. You can do this by adding an animal print belt, bag or shoes. If you are feeling brave you can wear an animal print legging or, alternatively, a striking dress like this one from New Look £45.
Are you an animal lover? Will you go for leopard, zebra or tiger?

Here comes Summer

Hi,
With the unexpected sunny days we have had and the newspaper headlines, that we are due to have a good Summer ( yes, it's hard to believe), I have been looking at swimwear. With this in mind and the thought of stripping off in public, I went for a run this morning. This fantastic metallic swimsuit, £30, from New Look should turn a few heads.
Would you wear this fab cutout swimsuit? We can always start a running club!!!!!

Be Bold

Hi,
Sorry for the lack of blogs, but I have been busy in Brent Cross, checking out the shops and taking customers shopping.
Brights and colour blocking are big this season. Mix and match potent colour combinations or wear head to toe.
Another great way to try this trend and perhaps a way to dip your toe into the water, is to wear bright shoes. This fab gladiator wedge is from Office ,£80.
They look good, although, I wouldn't recommend that you run for a bus in them.
Take a look at www.thefashionfix.co.uk for more styling tips
Happy shopping

Go Nude

Hi,
When I say, Go Nude, luckily I don't mean without clothes. I don't know about you, but I have consumed a large amount of chocolate Easter eggs mostly stolen from my children's stash, stored in the fridge. Nude is not a great option for me at present, but neutral shades are having a moment. A soft look in a subtle palette of peach, apricot, sand, putty and cream. Simple styling. I love this dress from New Look and at a great price of £25.
Will you be going nude?

Shine On

Hi,

This season fabrics come in shimmering metallic- rich gold, bronze, lurex and silk. Golds are textured, beaten and beaded. Team sparkly dresses with neutral coats for a wearable look.

If you just want a nod to the trend, wear either a metallic bag or shoes.

This bronze bow bandeau dress is from French Connection £130.

Will you wear a metallic dress or do you prefer just to accessorise ?

Big is Best

Hi,
Sorry I hav'nt written a blog for a while, I have been very busy shopping with customers- so back to blog world.
Its that time of year when you should be reassessing your wardrobe and deciding what trends to go for in the new season. A great way to update a look is with jewellery. This Summer big is definately best, yes size does matter.
Super size earrings are bang on trend and these Souk statement chandelier earrings from Accessorize are only £18.

Harem pants

Hi,
Today I had a customer to style and dress at Brent Cross shopping Centre. On my travels around the centre, I noticed that the new harem pant was already in a few shops. The one pictured here is from Warehouse and is £45, they are in Topshop and there is a beautiful style in Reiss.
With the volume of this style, you will need to define your waist. Wear with a cropped blazer, a safari jacket or blouse. Dress down with flats or ideally with heels. this is the most important trouser shape for Spring.
Will you be wearing them? Let me know your comments.

Its all Black and White

Hi,
Timeless and classic pieces in black and white are a big story this season. Take a great black jacket and wear with an animal print top, to add a funky edge. Animal prints are also big news for the Summer, so this outfit from Marks and Spencer looks bang on trend. This is an easy look to put together and you can probably adapt what you already have in your wardrobe. Just by adding an animal print scarf will do this.
Do you like this monochrome look or do you prefer colour?

The All-in-One

Hi,
Jumpsuits and all-in-ones have been in the shops for a couple of seasons, but are bang on trend and a key look, for this season. You will find them in most shops, high end and mainstream, with shops like Monsoon and this one, from Dorothy Perkins, stocking them.
This jumsuit is great value at £40 and has a belt to pull in the waist. Add the heels, a peep toe platform, at £35 and chunky bangles £15 each to complete the look- all from Dorothy Perkins. You can still look good on a budget.
Unfortunately, I can remember this look from the first time around and will be leaving this look to my new nephew, Charlie, who is 5 months old!!!! He looks fab in his babygros!!!!
Do you remember this from the first time around and will you be wearing then again? It is a key trend after all!

Transitional Tribal

Hi,
I have not been writing my blog, as I have been knee deep in snow ( literally). My kids have been off school and we have been busy building snowmen and having snowball fights. The look has been layers, followed by layers followed by padded coat, scarf, hat and wellies- very glam!!!
Back to the fashion world and a look ahead for Spring/ Summer. There is a tribal influence coming through with prints from ankara, ikats, leopard spots, batik and chunky beaded accessories. Earth tones of muted greens, mustard and nude colours make up the palette. This outfit from Principles is a great transitional outfit. Neutral shirt £55, suede tassell bag £45, chocolate silk washed cargo trousers £55, pink paisley print silk scarf £29.
What do you think of this outfit? Easy to wear?

New Look for a New Look

Hi,
One of the many new looks coming through for Spring/Summer 2009, is distressed denim. Remember the stonewash and snow wash jeans from yester year, well they are back. Hooray I hear you shout!!! Denim will be ripped, bleached, spliced and frayed. This outfit from New Look not only fits the bill, it is affordable ( well that is important right now ) and it is a good transitional outfit. Kaftan top £20 and jeans £25.
Do you remember this light blue denim look from the first time around? What do you think of it?

Little people and 20 years on!!!!

Hi,
Yesterday I went to the trade show Bubble at Olympia, this is only for childrenswear. I wanted to have a nose around and keep myself up to date with little people's clothes. The first person I bumped into was the head of childrenswear for French Connection, who recognised me from 20 years ago when I was a fashion buyer and he as selling the French Connection range ( for grown ups). After a long catch up chat ( well, we had 20 years to go over) I left his stand amazed and also pleased that he had recognised me from so long ago. I'm also glad that 20 years on I still love the buzz of being at a trade show and still have a love of clothes, even little peoples!!!
Do you look much different from 20 years ago? Let me know.

Happy New Year

Hi,
I have not been blogging over the Christmas and New Year holidays, so Happy New Year to you. It's that time of year when you may be thinking about Spring/Summer and the new trends, but it is FAR too cold to wear anything but thermals and quilted coats ( obviously as well as layers of other clothes). Now is a good time to have a good sort out, get your wardrobe into some sort of order- clear out any clothes that you have not worn for a couple of seasons or that no longer fit ( either too big or too small ). This is a great cleansing process ready to embrace the New Year.
If you are unclear what to keep or give to the charity shop take a look at my website www.thefashionfix.co.uk. You can always call me for advice.
