You may have thought that I had stopped writing my blog, but I have not had the time, life has been hectic, but here I am back again with a short story!
Shorts are big this season, not literally, because wear them
the tinier the better. Styles range from frayed denim, to cycling shorts, to high waist florals. Dress them down by teaming with a slouchy tee, blazer and brogues or dress them up with a lace top and heels.

New season new trends. What to wear this season I hear you shout? Well first of all you need to secide- Am I the kinda girl that likes to look pretty and feminine, or am I the more practical type, that prefers a more sleek and sophisticated look? This season offers fondant colours and sugar coated prettiness for you girly-girls. Ice cream and pastel shades in floaty fabrics ( think Timotei girl). The picture from Miss Selfridge shows the delicate and feminine Spring look.

In contrast, there is the military or utility trend that is both hardwearing and chic. Key items are the parka, military jacket, chinos and cargo/ combat trouser. Layer khakis and neutrals and wear them with lace up boots.

With only 8 days to go and Christmas pressies and lunch to think about, you may be in a bit of a panic ( I know I am). I thought I would show you this great outfit for Christmas day lunch, although probably best to get changed into it after you have made the lunch. The outfit is from Wallis and the leggings can easily be dressed up or down. As I am typing this, it is snowing heavily and my kids are overexcited about the prospect of school being closed a day before they are due to break up. You may not have noticed ( if you live in a box), but since the beginning of October every shop is either selling or decorated with all things Christmas and every television advert is pushing another toy for our kids to ask for on their Christmas list, as if it wasn't long enough already! Well the good news is Christmas day is 5 weeks today! Yipee, I hear you say. Before you start to panic about everything you need to get done, I can help you a little with tips on what to wear to the many parties you have been invited to. Hi,

On Tuesday, Vanessa Feltz came to Brent Cross to do a live show. After speaking to Vanessa about the trends for the season and how to adapt them for your age, I was given the challenge of dressing a member of the live audience in 30 minutes. Here is a pic of Martyn, the volunteer, Vanessa and I. Martyn was originally dressed in jeans, white shirt, cardigan and tan boots, my challenge was to change her outfit/ image in 30 minutes!! We ran to Topshop where I kitted her out with a gorgeous black dress ( it is difficult to see the detail here), a very soft and stunning stud collar black leather jacket, a large statement necklace and black tights. We ran from Topshop to Office where I grabbed a fab pair of flat biker boots and an extremely high pair of platform shoes ( here I am in the pic above showing them to the audience). As we had to run down the escalator to return to the live radio show, Martyn wore the boots and I carried the shoes. The audience loved the outfit and transformation, Martyn went back to Topshop to buy the jacket and Vanessa and her team were very impressed by what I had acheived in just 30 minutes. Success all round.

Brights and colour blocking are big this season. Mix and match potent colour combinations or wear head to toe.

Another great way to try this trend and perhaps a way to dip your toe into the water, is to wear bright shoes. This fab gladiator wedge is from Office ,£80.

Go Nude

When I say, Go Nude, luckily I don't mean without clothes. I don't know about you, but I have consumed a large amount of chocolate Easter eggs mostly stolen from my children's stash, stored in the fridge. Nude is not a great option for me at present, but neutral shades are having a moment. A soft look in a subtle palette of peach, apricot, sand, putty and cream. Simple styling. Today I had a customer to style and dress at Brent Cross shopping Centre. On my travels around the centre, I noticed that the new harem pant was already in a few shops. The one pictured here is from Warehouse and is £45, they are in Topshop and there is a beautiful style in Reiss.

With the volume of this style, you will need to define your waist. Wear with a cropped blazer, a safari jacket or blouse. Dress down with flats or ideally with heels. this is the most important trouser shape for Spring.

Jumpsuits and all-in-ones have been in the shops for a couple of seasons, but are bang on trend and a key look, for this season. You will find them in most shops, high end and mainstream, with shops like Monsoon and this one, from Dorothy Perkins, stocking them.
This jumsuit is great value at £40 and has a belt to pull in the waist. Add the heels, a peep toe platform, at £35 and chunky bangles £15 each to complete the look- all from Dorothy Perkins. You can still look good on a budget.
Unfortunately, I can remember this look from the first time around and will be leaving this look to my new nephew, Charlie, who is 5 months old!!!! He looks fab in his babygros!!!!

Transitional Tribal

I have not been writing my blog, as I have been knee deep in snow ( literally). My kids have been off school and we have been busy building snowmen and having snowball fights. The look has been layers, followed by layers followed by padded coat, scarf, hat and wellies- very glam!!!

Back to the fashion world and a look ahead for Spring/ Summer. There is a tribal influence coming through with prints from ankara, ikats, leopard spots, batik and chunky beaded accessories. One of the many new looks coming through for Spring/Summer 2009, is distressed denim. Remember the stonewash and snow wash jeans from yester year, well they are back. Hooray I hear you shout!!! Denim will be ripped, bleached, spliced and frayed. This outfit from New Look not only fits the bill, it is affordable ( well that is important right now ) and it is a good transitional outfit. Kaftan top £20 and jeans £25.
Do you remember this light blue denim look from the first time around? What do you think of it?

Little people and 20 years on!!!!

Hi,
Yesterday I went to the trade show Bubble at Olympia, this is only for childrenswear. I wanted to have a nose around and keep myself up to date with little people's clothes. The first person I bumped into was the head of childrenswear for French Connection, who recognised me from 20 years ago when I was a fashion buyer and he as selling the French Connection range ( for grown ups). After a long catch up chat ( well, we had 20 years to go over) I left his stand amazed and also pleased that he had recognised me from so long ago. I'm also glad that 20 years on I still love the buzz of being at a trade show and still have a love of clothes, even little peoples!!!

Happy New Year

Hi,
I have not been blogging over the Christmas and New Year holidays, so Happy New Year to you. It's that time of year when you may be thinking about Spring/Summer and the new trends, but it is FAR too cold to wear anything but thermals and quilted coats ( obviously as well as layers of other clothes). Now is a good time to have a good sort out, get your wardrobe into some sort of order- clear out any clothes that you have not worn for a couple of seasons or that no longer fit ( either too big or too small ). This is a great cleansing process ready to embrace the New Year.

One more sleep to go

Hi,
My kids are very excited with only one more sleep to go before Santa arrives, they are wondering how much chocolate they are going to get in their stocking whereas I am wondering what to wear for Christmas day lunch, so that I can eat lots of chocolate.
For this, I have decided to be stylish and comfortable. I will wear my favourite black skinnies and a fab new blouse with intricate collar detail. It is such a shame that elasticated waist trousers aren't on trend !!!

Oops Its Party Time

Hi,
The party season has began and at the weekend I went to a fantastic party. The drinks were flowing- in my case lychee martini ( tasted like fruit juice, but it was definately stronger), the food was plentiful and the dancing took me back to my youth. I wore a tight black, stretch satin pencil skirt, a fab blouse and killer platform heels- I was ready to party. When "Oops upside your head" began to play I was the first one sitting on the floor and rowing to the beat! ( I hope you remember the song). When the alcohol finally wore off I realised I had put my back out ( the killer heels probably didn't help !!). I have now had an appointment with the osteopath and have another one booked. The moral of the story- don't drink too much when wearing killer heels and attempt to dance like you did 20 years ago!!! Has anyone got any similar stories?

Christmas parties

Hi,

Today I had my first customer request for outfits for Christmas parties. It is hard to believe it is that time again. Sequins, satin and sparkle are a key look this party season- they make a strong statement. Sequins can be found in most of the High street shops, either as all over garments or trims. Today my customer tried on a sequin vest in Monsoon, a sequin trim top in Topshop, a cardigan decorated with sequins in Wallis, but finally settled on a black wrap cardigan with a sequin collar from Hobbs. The gold sequin bardot top in the pic is from Wallis £40. Who needs a disco ball!!! Glitter as you go, party on.

The Crouch End Project

Two very savvy girls have got The Crouch End Project together. The aim of this is to make the most of the great shops in Crouch End and encourage the village atmosphere. The LBD

Hi,

I haven't had time to write my blog for just over a week as it has been half term- I have 2 kids to entertain and fashion trends have not been my priority.

Back in fashion world-I have just received 2 Christmas party invitations- yes, I know its good to be popular!!!

What to wear? The LBD or otherwise known as The Little Black Dress is key this season. Wear either strapless and mini or one shouldered and knee length. The look is streamlined and elegant. add a pair of killer heels, some lace tights and a large cluth bag .

I love this lace back dress from French Connection £100, it ticks all the fashion boxes.

What to wear?

Hi,
On Tuesday I dressed a client for the second season. When we last shopped together in April, she spent the majority of her budget in Topshop, even though she is just 40- she tells her daughter that she is only 21!- I must try that with my kids.
I always know what ranges are in each shop, so I knew that this time it would be different- not a large buy in one shop. I explained that this season we had to select the best of what was on offer from each store to make a co-ordinated wardrobe. At the moment Topshop reminded us of the Topshop we remembered from our teens, so I chose the garments that were more suitable from a large selection of really young and cheaper looking clothes- There was a really great leather jacket for £120 and a fab selection of coloured opaques.
By the end of our session we had purchased from Topshop, Gap, Warehouse, Whistles and Office. She went home with many carrier bags and a great capsule wardrobe- another happy shopper.

What credit crunch?

Yesterday, I took a client shopping to Brent Cross. Not the best day to shop, but I was grateful for the sunshine- I expected that the shopping centre would be quiet and make my life easier. I thought that it was a shame to miss such a fantastic day ( we haven't had many), but clearly nobody else in North London felt the same way as me.
The Centre was absolutely packed, it was as if Christmas had come early. It was also clear that the credit crunch and all of the miserable headlines that go with it, had also not hit North London.
What is going on? Are the Sales enticing shoppers? Are people just trying to make themselves feel better?

Save time and money

Hi,
I am very busy for the month of October. I had a customer this week and when we were in the first shop ( Jigsaw ), at the till about to pay, her Husband called to say that all her savings had been frozen in her account in Iceland!- not great timing! A LOT of swearing followed and then she proceeded to pay as if the call had not happened. Strange you may think!
We had a great 4 hours shopping she got everything she needed for the Winter season, including acessories, coloured tights, shoe boots and patent converse. She is now set- she will not have to return items, she will wear EVERYTHING and has got a very stylish and co-ordinated wardrobe, that anyone would be proud to own. Everything was from the High Street and she got a LOT for her money.
The moral of the story- a personal styling service really can save you time and MONEY! A good thing when you read the headlines!

Polo necks

Hi,

Today I spent the day looking at ALL the stock in ALL the shops at Brent Cross shopping Centre, North London. Thank goodness for coffee!!

Anyway, I was doing research for all the clients that have booked for my persoanl styling service during October. I need to know what is on offer to guarantee that my customers get the very best selection of clothes, without having to drag them around 250 shops.

I was also after a new selection of polo necks for my own wardrobe. Definately a fashion essential for Winter, so good to have a few colours to co-ordinate with a variety of outfits.

Here is a run down of some of the polo necks, so you don't have to spend your day looking around shops and drinking coffee. I know, someone has to do it!!!!

Zara- A good variety of colours, but short in the body- beware the muffin top. £9.00

H & M- Wide choice of colours and good price £12.99. Good for if you are on a budget.

Warehouse- Black, grey, brown, lovely quality and longer in the body to cover the top of your jeans/trousers/skirt. More pricey at £30, but worth it.

Oasis- Only 2 colours, similar to Warehouse quality £32.

Wallis- skinny rib polo neck £25 ( see photo)

The problem I have, is when I have to research the shops, I just can't help buying for myself- Warehouse got my vote in black, grey and brown- you can never have enough polo necks!!!.

This is my first blog, as although I have been in the fashion industry for many years, technology and I do not go hand in hand. So here goes.

TheFashionfix receives a lot of press, so i thought it would be interesting to read my latest article from Pregnancy, Baby and You.
